THE SHORT MOVIES PARA FORTALECER LA COMPRENSIÓN AUDITIVA EN LOS ESTUDIANTES DEL TERCER GRADO “A” DE LA I.E.E. BLAS VALERA – LAMUD, 2023.
Abstract
The following research project, titled "The short movies to improve the Listening Comprehension in Third-Grade at “Blas Valera” Emblematic Educative Institution – Lámud, 2023," aimed to demonstrate the influence of "The short movies" (short videos) on the performance of English listening comprehension.
A quantitative research with a pre-experimental design was conducted with a sample of 18 students from the third-grade "A" class. A rubric, validated by expert judgment, was used as both a pre-test and post-test to assess listening comprehension in its dimensions of message comprehension-interpretation in context, message perception, and attitude.
As a method, 20 learning sessions were implemented using "The short movies" strategy. For statistical analysis, Microsoft Excel was used to generate tables and graphs that showed significant differences between the pre-test, where 100% of students scored at the beginner level in listening comprehension, and the post-test, where 56% reached the outstanding level.
The research aims to improve English listening comprehension among high school students, given their current low level. "The short movies" strategy will be implemented, supported by previous studies that consider it effective. Additionally, the use of educational videos in the classroom offers benefits such as exposure to contexts, authentic language, and comprehension of gestures and expressions.
In conclusion, the use of "The short movies" as a didactic resource significantly influenced the performance of English listening comprehension in students. This project adds to other studies that have explored the use of innovative strategies to improve English language learning in students.
